Well, it seems that our lovely City Council has a big problem with common sense.
They now have to figure out where to get money to cover the cost on our freak snow storm that happened in September.
We have some council members that seem to like that fact the city taxpayers are a debit machine. In fact, one did say to the rest of council to STOP using taxpayers as a debit machine.
They just have presented the new budget and all seems to lined up to where the monies need to go but for the next four years there will be an increase of 4.7% +- to every taxpayer and land owner EVERY YEAR. Not only that but huge increases to utilities to every home owner and businesses for the next 4 years. This amounts to a whopping $900 +- dollars in 4 years that every one has to pay the city and utilities. This is in order to cover the increase amount to people coming to the city and cover infrastructure. But yet Council puts a 4.7+- increase to the taxpayers. WTF??? Okay, so we have all these new people coming into out city and contributing to the city and yet our taxes and utilities keep going up. This in my mind doesn't compute. City Council has zero clue that the not all citizens of Calgary get a cost of living increase. Most don't even get a 3% raise. This is ruthless and greedy of this current city council.
I am not business savvy in way shape or form and never will profess to be smart in this, but I see a corrupt city hall trying to snowball the tax payers of this city.
Now back to the freak snow storm....city hall has to find money to cover the cost of this storm.
My advice to them is get rid of your shit and frivolous projects. Examples the Cycle track, the new library, liquor store zones etc. etc.
Council has a bad habit of wanting pretty shining things at the cost of the taxpayers. Plus we have also, what the media has called, the Flakey Four on council. These individuals have some outrageous ideas that most of the rest of the council and Mayor seem to follow suit. We also have councillors that show zero backbone or common sense.
We also have a ridiculous art program that requires us to use 1% of our budget for public art. This money could be spent on better projects. The big blue ring on Deerfoot Trail is one of the big examples of unwise spending of this council. Scrap the program altogether.
It is time that City Hall take a long hard look at the unwise spending habits and focus on the essentials and priorities. Yes to infrastructure, yes to roads, yes to up keep of parks and recreational areas, yes to public transit. These are the priorities....first and foremost. No to the cycle track. What a huge waste of money and studies. No to the new library because you want something new and shiny. No to the public art program.
These alone would put money back into the City without having to rape the taxpayers that are already struggling to make ends meet. Consider the people.
